Should clutch pedal be higher than brake? ›

The gas and brake pedals are at more or less the same height because you move your right foot back and forth between these pedals on an entirely different schedule. In any case, there is no adjustment for the At Rest Position of the clutch pedal, it is what it is, and it is designed that way.

The pedals are exactly as in the same position as a left hand drive car, clutch is on the left, the brake in the centre and the accelerator pedal on the right.. Accelerator is always on the right, Brake is always in the middle, Clutch is always on the left.

Order of the foot pedals

Left pedal: the Clutch pedal, that makes the car go. Middle pedal: the Brake pedal, slows all four wheels at the same time. Right pedal: the Gas pedal, the more you push it down the more it increases the fuel flow into the engine and the faster you go.

As you start to bring the clutch pedal up, you should slowly start to press down on the accelerator pedal. Think of it as a see-saw, if you will. As you bring up the clutch and push down on the gas, there will be an equilibrium in which the car is completely still.

It won't damage the engine, but it will burn out the clutch faster. In order to start from a stop you have to press on the accelerator while depressing the clutch. Just don't “ride the clutch” which means once you are going, don't continue to depress the clutch in any way until you are ready to switch gears.

If your clutch pedal feels different it's time for an adjustment at a minimum. If it's loose, spongy, sticking or vibrating, you may need more than an adjustment. Your clutch pedal should operate smoothly and you should be able to feel the catch at about the same place each time you change gears.

The clutch should take a bit of pressure to move, and when you press down, you should be met with some resistance. If the clutch pedal feels 'spongey' or feels like you're pushing it into a block of warm butter, your clutch is likely going to need to be replaced soon.

The throttle pedal is typically taller to accommodate the driver's foot arch. The brake pedal is shorter but wider to make it easier to find.

Proper foot position

The heel rests on the floor, so the right foot covers the brake pedal. When pressing the brake, apply pressure in the center of the brake pedal with the ball of your foot. To reach the gas pedal, leave the heel on the floor and pivot the foot to the right.

So, when going manual, remember that the clutch will be on the left, the gas on the far right, and the brake in between the pedals, but close to the gas.
