8 Best Breakfast Locations in Freeport | ExploringMaine.com (1)
Whether you’re just passing through for an overnight, or in town for a week’s vacation, Freeport has plenty of dining options to choose from—and that includes breakfast establishments.

And regardless of what your plans are while in town—shopping until you drop at the outlets, or perhaps enjoying the Desert of Maine—you’ll need to start your day off right with a good breakfast.

So, be sure to leave a bit of spare time to sit and enjoy a leisurely morning meal—and if you forget to set your alarm, that’s okay, too, because there are plenty of grab-and-go breakfast options in Freeport, too.

Map of Freeport Breakfast Locations

This map includes all of the Freeport breakfast restaurants we mention in this post:

Sunrise Café

This casual, comfortable café is a popular haunt for tourists and locals alike. With a no-frills décor to match the menu, there are just enough basic-but-delicious options, including house-made cornbread, muffins, and biscuits.

And as simple as the menu is, the Sunrise manages to include some next-level options, like Brandon’s Monte Cristo, Build-Your-Own Omelets, and Steak ‘n Eggs; they also have a daily specials board, so be sure to check it out before you make your decision.

Keep your eyes peeled for their famous Red Flannel Hash, a frequent specials board offering.

Freeport Café

This café is bright and cheerful—just like the service—and with the delightful morning fare on the menu here, it’s a trifecta for the perfect start to your day.

Located at the Freeport Best Western, the Freeport Café is open to the public and a popular morning routine for many residents in town. The generous portions are fresh and delicious, priced fairly, and served with a smile.

And because I’m a fan of partaking of both sweet and savory when I go out for breakfast, I recommend ordering the Country Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 hash brown patties, and either one pancake or a slice of French toast. And did I mention they have mimosas?

1912 Café

Snuggled into the L.L. Bean Flagship Store, this little eatery serves breakfast and lunch all day long—including a delightful little breakfast bagel menu.

Five signature sandwiches, made-to-order with fresh, local ingredients, perfect to recharge your retail batteries before heading back into the shopping fray. I’m literally salivating here as I ponder sinking my teeth into one of their West Grand sandwiches: smoked salmon, red onion, capers, greens, and dill cream cheese.

With both indoor and outdoor seating, the 1912 is the perfect little respite, especially if the sun is shining and you can enjoy your meal on the patio.

Wolfe’s Neck Farm Café

At Wolfe’s Neck Farm, their mission is to “transform your relationship with farming and food for a healthier planet,” and in my estimation, they’re doing a gosh-darned good job of it.

Every delicious item you purchase at this café allows these folks to further invest in their agricultural education platform—and besides, how often can you say that you’re eating an egg that was laid mere hours ago?

All of their mouth-watering morning sandwiches are made with Wolfe’s Neck Farm-fresh eggs, bacon, and sausage; the yogurt in the smoothies here also uses milk from the farm’s cows.

They also have their own campground—130 pet-friendly campsites, water/electric hookup sites, and 3 cabins—all within 5 miles of Main Street.

Maine Harvest

Located at the venerable Harraseeket Inn, Maine Harvest’s breakfast is open to the public—and it is included in the price of lodging if you are staying there (and booked directly through the Inn).

The elevated breakfast buffet menu here changes frequently and often includes items like Eggs Benedict, homemade granola, fresh baked goods, and blueberry French toast.

Reservations are strongly suggested, however, even if you are a guest at the Inn—and especially during the summertime.

Isabella’s Sticky Buns Café and Bakery

This cozy little “down and under” nook is tucked partway below street level—but somehow remains bright and airy. All of the fare here is handmade using local ingredients and family recipes, and their breakfast menu is served all day (they also have a lunch menu).

Choose from breakfast sandwiches on your choice of bread (I suggest the homemade biscuit), omelets, scrambles, and a few morning specialties—one of which is Isabella’s Famous Sticky Bun French Toast…it’s like dessert for breakfast.

The Met Coffee House and Art Gallery

With two other locations in North Conway, NH, the Freeport Met recently opened its doors to eager customers familiar with its unique format: A mashup of art gallery and coffee shop. Brilliant!

Their slogan is “Meet me at the Met for coffee, culture, comfort, and community,” which is just about as apt as you can get. With comfortable, deep seating areas for chatting, sipping, nibbling, and viewing the works of art hanging on every available wall, the Met is a breath of fresh air; it’s the kind of place you walk into and immediately think, “Ooooh, now THIS is something special.”

And the menu is just as unique; try The Saco breakfast sandwich to get your morning off to a zesty start: Egg, bacon, guacamole, tomato, melted cheddar, and a dash of sriracha, all on your choice of fresh bagel.

Sam’s Italian Foods

I know, I know…why would Sam’s Italian Foods be on a review of breakfast restaurants, you ask? Well, simple, really—they have breakfast.

Breakfast pizza (my favorite, with garlic butter, egg, American and provolone cheeses, green peppers, onions, and choice of meats), breakfast wraps, breakfast Italian subs (adds an egg to the regular ingredients), an egg and sausage breakfast platter, and a signature Sam-n-egg sandwich.

They don’t open until 9:00, though, so if you’re an early morning riser, you’ll have to wait a bit for your sustenance.

And, of course, Freeport has fast-food breakfast options–McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Dunkin’—for those of you that woke up late and have to be somewhere, or if you’re just a “coffee’s fine, thanks” type of morning person (and if so, shame on you—don’t you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?).
